ECHOES FROM DEATH - Helen Hanson Summary

Claudia Seagal became an FBI agent after her boyfriend’s savage death. But he may have been just another killer. When she was a college student, Claudia accompanied her lover to Mazatlán for spring break. The last-minute trip was exciting until Ravi’s brutal murder. Unable to help him while he perished in a dirty alley, she joined the FBI in response to his senseless death. A decade later, a reluctant witness comes forward, and Claudia discovers that the trip wasn’t spontaneous. It was premeditated. Ravi went to meet a man who worked for the cartel. While she investigates the new lead and Ravi’s betrayal, she and robotics expert Baxter Cruise travel to Mexico for answers. In the foreign country, her FBI badge is useless, and on both sides of the border, someone wants them dead. Meanwhile, Mexico’s national archaeological museum hires investigator Kurt Meyers (Dark Pool) to locate priceless pre-Columbian artifacts that went missing at the same time as Ravi’s murder. When another man leaves a trail of bodies in his quest to acquire the artifacts, Kurt searches for a connection between his case and the cold-case murder of a college student in Mazatlán. As Claudia and Baxter unravel the truth about Ravi’s death, it threatens the secrets of the local cartel boss. When the four factions descend on the same turf, not everyone gets out alive. Echoes of Empire - Kalypso Nicolaïdis,Berny Sebe,Gabrielle Maas Summary

How does our colonial past echo through today's global politics? How have former empire-builders sought vindication or atonement, and formerly colonized states reversal or retribution? This groundbreaking book presents a panoramic view of attitudes to empires past and present, seen not only through the hard politics of international power structures but also through the nuances of memory, historiography and national and minority cultural identities. Bringing together leading historians, poitical scientists and international relations scholars from across the globe, Echoes of Empire emphasizes Europe's colonial legacy whilst also highlighting the importance of non-European power centres- Ottoman, Russian, Chinese, Japanese- in shaping world politics, then and now. Echoes of Empire bridges the divide between disciplines to trace the global routes travelled by objects, ideas and people and forms a radically different notion of the term 'empire' itself. This will be an essential companion to courses on international relations and imperial history as well as a fascinating read for anyone interested in Western hegemony, North-South relations, global power shifts and the longue duree..

Echoes - Ranjana Joshi Summary

In ‘Echoes’, the author explores the eddies and backwaters and torrents in the current of life. She tries to stay at whatever moment in its course and arrives at its complete significance. If she portrays tragedy, it is not only an occasion for some outburst of grief but also a source from which she gathers strength. And out of defeat, she weaves the experience into the fabric of character and imbues its resignation with new thought and resolve for other ventures. In each poem there is a situation as it reveals the soul of the protagonist. She prefers to study the inner landscape. The inner man, the psyche of the individual. The Echoes of Summer - John Kendall Summary

It is 1956, and although Jonathon Statler is barely fifteen, he is already a proven survivor. Locked in a world of loneliness and abuse, Jonathon has nonetheless managed to learn golf and tennis, and embrace a levelheaded approach to life. He has paid a price, however. Until one magical summer when Jonathon meets Malcolm Platt, the Director of Robert Morris Camp for Boys, and Angus McClatchy, a former teacher who now considers himself nothing more than an old man and, finally, a sensitive young woman named Becky Wilson. The Echoes of Summer is set against a background of racial and religious tension so prevalent during the 1950s. Echoes of a Haunting - Clara M. Miller Summary

In the first place, the house doesnt even look haunted. With these words, a different world opens up to readers as it did some twenty nine years ago for an unsuspecting family from Buffalo, New York. Echoes of a Haunting traces the steps of this normal family whose life turned upside down when they moved to a disturbed or haunted house in Southern New York State in 1970. It is told in diary form in order to bring a semblance of order to the events. At first, the family tended to discount the happenings and come up with some rather creative explanations. Soon, however, the explanations began more and more to assume the form of rationalizations. Before long, they were forced to admit that there was no natural cause for what was occurring daily both in the house and in the surrounding area. Reluctantly, the members of the family began to reach out to others. In some cases, they encountered scorn and even a strange, unwarranted, hostility as though the whole panoply of phenomena were their fault. It was a very bad atmosphere in which to raise a family. Once the story became public, help was offered by psychics and clergy. In some cases this help even brought a temporary relief but the trouble never disappeared for long. Strange accidents, one almost fatal, happened on a regular basis. Figures were seen, both human and otherwise. In one case a house was seen where no house had existed for many, many years. Disturbing personality changes emerged, even resulting in a transformation of eye color from brown to blue. The toll taken on the emotional and physical health of the family soon became too much to endure and they were forced to abandon the house in 1974. Hopefully, this book will cause skeptics to think again to avoid a similar shock to the senses. The family had a rude awakening. Its never easy finding out that you cant always trust your senses, that nothing is really impossible and that there is a breaking point for everyone. Whether the reader is a died-in-the-wool skeptic, a searcher, a believer or somewhere in between, I hope everyone reads these pages with an open mind. It is all true! Echoes of a Haunting has recently been chosen as a textbook for a Masters Degree Program in Parapsychology at Texas Christian University. The Professor teaching the course, Dr. Timothy Barth, has stated that its the best documented case of a haunting he has ever read. The house is currently being investigated by Paranormal researchers who have taken startling photos of "energy orbs" and strange colored lights in the area. Hopefully, these photos will be available soon on the Authors website..

Echoes - Lisbeth Thom,Rachel Nelson Summary

Echoes is a unique book of poems written by Lisbeth Thom and her granddaughter, Rachel Nelson. One summer Lisbeth wrote a poem and sent it to eleven-year old Rachel in Eden, Prairie, Minnesota. She asked Rachel to read her poem and respond with a poem of her own. Rachel wrote a poem on a similar subject and also sent back a new poem and asked Lisbeth, her grandmother in Savannah, Georgia, to respond to her poem and then send Rachel another poem. That is how, Echoes the book of poems, began. They bounced their poems back and forth across the country until they had fifty poems ready for publication. Since publication, teachers have used Echoes in classrooms as a teaching tool. They use the idea of taking one person's poem to inspire a second person to write a poem on a similar subject. The poems in Echoes are written on many different subjects. They are creative, thought-provoking, family oriented, fun, and funny. Many of the poems let the reader travel inside the author's mind. These poems can help students learn to enjoy reading and writing poetry. In Echoes, the generation gap between grandmother and granddaughter makes for an interesting contrast in viewpoint. The poems are excellent for reading to younger children..

Echoes - Danielle Steel Summary

Against a vivid backdrop of history, Danielle Steel tells a compelling story of love and war, acts of faith and acts of betrayal…and of three generations of women as they journey though years of loss and survival, linked by an indomitable devotion that echoes across time. For the Wittgenstein family, the summer of 1915 was a time of both prosperity and unease, as the guns of war sound in the distance. But for eldest daughter Beata, it was also a summer of awakening. By the glimmering waters of Lake Geneva, the quiet Jewish beauty met a young French officer and fell in love. Knowing that her parents would never accept her marriage to a Catholic, Beata followed her heart anyway. And as the two built a new life together, Beata’s past would stay with her in ways she could never have predicted. For as the years pass, and Europe is once again engulfed in war, Beata must watch in horror as Hitler’s terror threatens her life and family—even her eighteen-year-old daughter Amadea, who has taken on the vows of a Carmelite nun. For Amadea, the convent is no refuge. As family and friends are swept away without a trace, Amadea is forced into hiding. Thus begins a harrowing journey of survival, as she escapes into the heart of the French Resistance. Here Amadea will find a renewed sense of purpose, taking on the most daring missions behind enemy lines. And it is here, in the darkest moments of fear, that Amadea will feel her mother’s loving strength—and that of her mother’s mother before her–as the voices of lost loved ones echo powerfully in her heart. And here, amid the fires of war, Amadea will meet an extraordinary man, British secret agent Rupert Montgomery. In Colonel Montgomery, Amadea finds a man who will help her discover her place in an unbreakable chain between generations…and between her lost family and her dreams for the future—a future she is only just beginning to imagine: a future of hope rooted in the rich soil of the past. With the grace of a master storyteller, Danielle Steel breathes life into history, creating a bold, sweeping tale filled with unforgettable characters and breathtaking images—from the elegant rituals of Europe’s prewar aristocracy to the brutal desperation of Germany’s death camps. Drawing us into a vanished world, Echoes weaves an intricate tapestry of a mother’s love, a daughter’s courage…and the unwavering faith that sustained them—even in history’s darkest hour..

Intende, Lector - Echoes of Myth, Religion and Ritual in the Ancient Novel - Marília P. Futre Pinheiro,Anton Bierl,Roger Beck Summary

Representation of myth in the novel, as a poetic, narrative and aesthetic device, is one of the most illuminating issues in the area of ancient religion, for such narratives investigate in various ways fundamental problems that concern all human beings. This volume brings together twenty contributions (six of them to a Roundtable organized by Anton Bierl on myth), originally presented at the Fourth International Conference on the Ancient novel (ICAN IV) held in Lisbon in July 2008. Employing an interdisciplinary approach and putting together different methodological tools (intertextual, psychological, and anthropological), each offers a illuminating investigation of mythical discourse as presented in the text or texts under discussion. The collection as a whole demonstrates the exemplary and transgressive significance of myth and its metaphorical meaning in a genre that to some extent can be considered a modernized and secular form of myth that focuses on the quintessential question of love..

Echoes of Ancient Indian Wisdom - Shantha N. Nair Summary

The echoes of ancient Indian wisdom can be heard from the oldest of scriptures that existed many years ago. Even thousands of years before they were written down on palm leaves, the teachings were passed on from generations to generations, from the teachers to the disciples in their oral form. These works are amongst the oldest of humanity. They laid the foundation of one of the most tolerant and diverse religions in the world, the Sanatan Dharma or Hinduism, which is marked by a wide range of ethos and philosophical approaches. Covering the vastness and immensity of the ancient Indian scriptures is akin to capturing a gigantic ocean in a small pitcher. Thus, in this book, the author has tried to catch a few 'echoes' resonating with age-old wisdom and has presented them to the readers. the book unravels the knowledge hidden inside the Samhitas, Brahmanas, Aranyakas and Upanishads of the Shruti that form the Vedas, and in the Smriti like Agamas, Dharma Shastras and so on. In short, it provides a glimpse, or rather a macro view of the ancient treasure of India..
